Career and Employment Definitions, Terms and Acronyms:
  • Payroll - one of a series of accounting transactions for paying employees for services rendered, after processing withholding of money from the employee for payment of payroll taxes, insurance premiums, employee benefits, garnishments and other deductions.
  • Full-time employee - an employee who works more than a specific number of hours per week, such as 32 or 40 hours, and generally is eligible for any company benefits.
  • Salary - a form of periodic payment from an employer to an employee, which is specified in an employment contract. Denotes a non-hourly or full-time employee.
